Long Distance Telephone Service

  • There are only two types of calls, local and long distance. Right?

Actually, there are four (not including international): local calls, state-to-state long-distance calls, in-state long-distance calls, and calls that go beyond your local calling area but don't go far enough to be considered long distance.

  • What long distance calls does PRIMUS provide?

When you choose PRIMUS as your long-distance carrier we will handle your in-state long distance calls, state-to-state long-distance calls, and international long distance calls. You may choose another carrier for "Regional Toll" or "Local Toll" calls (calls that stay within your state that are not considered long distance). These calls can be handled by your local phone company or, if you prefer, by PRIMUS at the same per minute rate as your in-state long distance which varies by state. To find out what PRIMUS would charge to handle these calls, and how to make the switch to PRIMUS, just call 1-888-8-PRIMUS.

  • Can I select a different carrier for long distance only?

No, your domestic long distance provider has to be the same as your international provider and vice versa.

  • What other services do you provide?

PRIMUS Long Distance offers all of our customers a FREE wireless dial around access number and FREE domestic travel cards at the exact same rates as your home telephone calling plan.   These services allow you to extend your low cost calls to almost any phone (i.e. cell phone, hotel room, office, pay phone, etc.).

The Switching Process

  • What is required to sign up for PRIMUS Long Distance service online?

When you order PRIMUS Long-Distance Service online, all you have to do is select the calling plan that's right for you, provide your service address and billing information, and agree to a method of payment.

  • Is there a switching fee if I change to Primus Long Distance?

Primus Long Distance does not charge a fee when switching your service. A fee may apply when switching long distance carriers by your current provider.

  • Do I have to call my local phone company to switch my long-distance service to Primus Long Distance?

Probably not. In most cases, we can take care of it for you. Sometimes, however, a local company will insist on hearing directly from the customer. If that's what happens to you, call Primus Customer Service at 1-888-8-PRIMUS and we'll help you complete the switch.

  • I tried to switch to Primus Long Distance, but my local phone company couldn't do it. Why not?

Probably for one of two reasons. The first is you most likely have a security block on your line called a "PIC Freeze." That prevents long-distance companies from grabbing your business without your express authorization. To "unfreeze" your line, call Primus Customer Service at 1-888-8-PRIMUS for the right code to give your local phone company so they can complete your switch to Primus Long Distance. The second reason may be that there is a long-distance service restriction on your line (usually something like an unpaid deposit or outstanding balance). Call Primus Customer Service at 1-888-8-PRIMUS to identify the problem so we can help you complete your switch to Primus.

  • How long will it take for my PRIMUS service to become active?

Our goal is to switch our customers over with minimal inconvenience. Typically, we can switch customers over to our service within 7-10 business days. You will be notified of the date of the switch over and receive an order confirmation and online account access via email.
